Serious allegations of corruption against Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University: The government treasury is being looted by his NRI family, Mohali, June 12
Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann claims to end corruption and bribery in every department, but corruption is increasing day by day in the state. Meanwhile, another case of alleged corruption has come to light in Baba Faridkot’s Baba Farid University, which is in the news for various controversies, in which the current Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Rajiv Sood, is in the headlines for ignoring government orders and giving jobs to his favourites and getting various works done illegally without tender.
Addressing a press conference at Mohali Press Club today, social worker S. Simranjit Singh Mann and kick boxing coach and social worker S. Kuldeep Singh Atwal (Faridkot) said that there are huge scams going on in Baba Farid University, which include ignoring government instructions during new recruitment and giving jobs to favourites, getting work done without tender and using government vehicles for his personal tours.
He further said that VC sahab has a background from Himachal Pradesh and he prefers to employ migrant people instead of young boys and girls from Punjab. He has appointed one of his favourites as a law officer and he is being given a salary of Rs 43000. Whereas he does not even know how to write or speak Punjabi. VC sahab says that we did not find any experienced person from Punjab and Haryana.
The VC sahab’s corruption crossed all limits when it was revealed that his wife Reena Sood, son Ishaan Sood and daughter-in-law Pakhi Chaturvedi Sood have been allegedly appointed as guest professors in the university’s research centre illegally and each one is being paid a salary of Rs. 80,000/- per month, whereas his son and daughter-in-law are permanent residents of a European country instead of India.
Not only this, the VC has appointed his favourite and inexperienced doctor Neetu Kakkar as the superintendent of the university, who has been given full authority to do all kinds of alleged illegal work. Taking advantage of this, Neetu Kakkar appointed an inexperienced girl working as a care-taker in her house as a lab technician. Similarly, Neetu Kakkar has employed a 38-year-old general category girl, whereas according to the government the age limit for this post is 37 years. Not only this, in the last six months the Vice Chancellor has purchased three luxury cars at the expense of the university and is allegedly using them for his personal benefit.
Social workers Simranjit Singh Mann and Kuldeep Singh Atwal have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann that even though the government is making good efforts against corruption, these corrupt officials are taking advantage of their high positions and defaming the government. Therefore, such corrupt bureaucracy should be punished immediately so that the image of the government does not get tarnished.

When Vice Chancellor Shri Rajiv Sood was talked to on phone about the above allegations leveled against him, he termed it as false, politically motivated and baseless. He said that after a conference held by some people in Faridkot regarding this matter, the university has put forth its side, which is a lie. The cyber cell is already investigating this matter. When he was asked about the salary being given to his family members, he said that he did not want to talk about it. When asked about hiring employees who do not fulfill the job conditions, he said that some posts are filled through outsourcing, for which the condition of passing Punjabi in class 10th does not apply.
