Veterinary doctors’ pay-rate not restored, struggle against the government will intensify
Joint Action Committee announced in a press conference, boycott of many government facilities, Mohali
Joint Action Committee of Punjab Vets for Pay-rate members have intensified their struggle against the Punjab government. While addressing a press conference in Mohali on Tuesday, the committee members said that the government has not restored the pay-rate of veterinary doctors.
Due to which the pay-rate of newly recruited doctors is being started very low in the initial phase itself. In such a situation, these doctors will remain on a pay-rate lower than other doctors till the end of their service. Joint Action Committee convener Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Dr. Abdul Majeed, Dr. Puneet Malhotra, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Dr. Gurdeep Singh and Dr. Harmandeep Singh said that the government is not only violating the orders of the High Court but is also harassing the veterinary doctors by ignoring its own pay commission, which will be strongly opposed.
The members of the Joint Action Committee said that for the last 40 years, the salary of veterinary officers was equal to that of medical and dental doctors. But it was reduced in the previous Congress government. Apart from this, this mistake was not rectified even in the current Aam Aadmi Party government.
Although the members of the committee have repeatedly met the ministers of the Animal Husbandry Department. But in the end, only assurances are received. Apart from that, no minister has taken any action till date to solve this serious problem of veterinary doctors.
He said that in this regard, the Joint Action Committee has boycotted many schemes provided by the government department. In which veterinary officers are not participating and they are not working. But emergency and OPD services have been maintained so that there is no shortage in the service of mute animals.
The committee members said that if their problems are still not solved by the government and their legitimate demands are not met, then veterinary doctors may be forced to take to the streets for their rights. In this, the support of farmer groups will also be taken. Because veterinary doctors provide more services to farmers and farmers are also standing shoulder to shoulder with veterinary doctors.
