The Govardhan Puja festival was celebrated with great pomp and show at the Gau Hospital: The Govardhan Puja festival was celebrated with great pomp and show at the Gau Hospital and Gaushala, Phase 1, Mohali, run by the Gau Grass Seva Samiti, with the support of various religious and social organizations.

All the women’s Sankirtan groups present paid their respects to Lord Krishna and sang melodious hymns in praise of Shri Govardhan Maharaj. A priest performed the puja of Shri Govardhan Maharaj, prepared from cow dung, with full rituals and offered 56 types of dishes. All the devotees who attended the event received the prasad of curry, rice, and halwa as Annakut.

The committee’s general secretary, Harkesh Singh, explained that according to the Puranas, Lord Krishna initiated the Govardhan Puja festival the day after Diwali. “Go-var-dhan” means the abundance of cows. Cow dung is a boon for Mother Earth, and cows become happy and content by grazing and roaming on Govardhan Hill, resulting in rivers of milk, yogurt, ghee, and butter flowing into every home. This is why Lord Krishna initiated the Govardhan Puja and broke Indra’s pride.

Harkesh explained that Gau Navaratri begins today and continues until the day after Gopashtami. These are also known as Gupt Navaratri. During these days, we should chant the Sri Surbhyai Namah mantra as much as possible. This fulfills all wishes and brings happiness and prosperity. Sri Surbhi Maiya is the mother goddess of Lord Krishna, and he himself chants the Sri Surbhi mantra.

Harkesh informed that Gopashtami will be celebrated as a festival on October 26th, starting at 5 p.m., at the Gau Hospital and Gaushala. Acharya Swami Rajeshwaranand Ji Maharaj is specially attending the event for bhajans and sermons on cows. The committee urges all devotees to attend the event with their families and receive the blessings of Mother Cow.
