Progressive Front Punjab CPM and Kisan Union leaders held the Chief Minister Punjab
Progressive Front Punjab CPM and Kisan Union leaders held the Chief Minister Punjab: Progressive Front Punjab, CPM, and Kisan Union leaders held the Chief Minister Punjab, Chief Secretary and officials of the concerned department, besides the Chairman and management of Bhakra Beas Management Board, guilty for the failure to make timely and effective arrangements regarding floods during a joint press conference at the front’s state-level office in Mohali.
PFP Chairman Advocate Darshan Singh Dhaliwal while addressing the media said that after holding a meeting on April 6, 2025, a demand letter was sent to the Chief Minister Punjab through DC Mohali to make adequate arrangements to save the state from floods and that the government should clean the rivers, drains, streams and rivers in a timely manner and repair the Banna before the floods.
After this, a legal notice was also sent to the Chief Secretary Punjab and the principal officials of the concerned departments through their lawyers on 18-6-2025. But it is regrettable that the government neither responded to the notice nor made any proper arrangements to prevent floods. Copies of this legal notice were sent through registered letters to the Chief Minister Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party President Mr. Aman Arora, Finance Minister Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema, Mr. Varinder Kumar Goyal Minister and Deputy Commissioners of 23 districts but till date no one has responded to it. He said that he is going to file a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court soon.
Through which he will request to take action against the concerned officials who failed to control the floods. Mr. Dhaliwal said that despite the warnings given by the Meteorological Department in Punjab in 2023, the government officials had condemned the lax action taken by the government officials but such negligence has now been used by the government. He said that a case should be registered against the government officials who have deliberately committed this blunder and legal action should be taken.
The state president of the front, Harminder Singh Mavi, said that the leaders of the central leadership of AAP have been camping in Punjab for a long time, while now Punjabis are suffering from the floods, the said leaders have fled back to Delhi. Mr. Mavi said that the government should also compensate the losses incurred by the volunteers who are serving the flood victims during their service. He said that the illegal mining mafia has also become the cause of the floods.
The mining mafia had hollowed out the embankments by digging deep pits near the embankments of the rivers, due to which the embankments of the rivers are breaking. The state president also demanded that the Punjab government call an all-party meeting so that all political parties forget their personal differences and come together jointly to help the flood victims in this difficult time.
At this time, CPM Secretariat Member Balvir Singh Musafir said that the Punjab government should release full compensation for the lives and property of every affected person as soon as possible so that the victims can get some relief and from now on, the responsibility of the management of rivers and dams should be fixed and the Punjab and Central governments should fulfill their responsibilities regarding the floods with dedication.
Addressing the journalists, the front’s state general secretary and retired police officer Mahendra Singh Manoli Surat said that due to the tussle between the state government and the central government, people have become homeless and have become economically bankrupt. Both the governments have failed to fulfill their respective responsibilities. He said that by simultaneously releasing water into the Ghaggar river through the flood gates of Sukhna Lake and Kushalia Dam, the people of the Malwa region are being harmed on a large scale.
He also said that instead of taking photos of the leaders of various political parties sitting on vehicles in the flood-affected areas, they should take photos of the affected people by giving them financial assistance packages. Retired officer Paramjit Singh Malakpur said that the Punjab government should deposit Rs 5 lakh in the accounts of each affected person without any delay and the remaining compensation should be given quickly after conducting a survey so that they can get some relief. He also demanded from the central government to announce special compensation for the flood-affected areas so that the affected people can feel some relief.
He further said that the government should immediately release a compensation of Rs 1 crore per person to the people who have died in these floods. Apart from others, the district president of Bhartiya Kisan Union Rajewal, Kirpal Singh Siyau and employee leader Dr. Daljit Singh Kailon also addressed this press meeting.
